One of the features I use a lot in Freemind is the ability to copy a node from a map and paste all of its sub nodes as text into any other text based document (and vice versa).
Is this possible with MindMeister? If not now it this planned for future enhancement?
I know others have touched on this but I wanted to make an explicit comparison to the features in Freemind, which is what I would really like MM to be able to do.

The "answer" is misleading because it in not an answer and not really a work around.
This is about pasting plain (properly indented) text into a node. Fire up Freemind to see how easy it is to do this. Once you have done this you will find it very useful in the "organization" stage of your mind map. You can quickly move things around - without slowing your thought process.
I heartily encourage MindMeister to take this feature seriously as it has a major impact on the user friendliness and speed of the UI.

I'm really glad you asked this because I was not aware of this feature and the answer is YES (and the feature is implemented *beautifully*).
Just right-click on the parent node of the branch of your map you wish to copy as text, highlight Tools and select Copy As Text. A window pops up with nicely formatted (i.e., children are indented) plain text of the node you selected and all child nodes (and their children etc.) Just copy the text to your clipboard and paste wherever you need.
OK, the problem was that this "Copy as Text..." feature is buried in a tools sub-menu, that I did not explore.
However, there still does not seem to be the reciprocal "Paste from Text" feature. Or am I missing something?
I would like to copy from my note pad and paste onto the map but can't figure out how.
Okay so I did the tools and copy as text then copied the text from my notepad and pasted it in that box. Now how do I get the text from the box to the node? I've tried everything I can think of.
You can import text files again after your exported them: https://www.mindmeister.com/help/manage/formats#import_maps
Is it possible to import a .txt file to add nodes to an existing map or only to create a new one?
I agree, it I've been using a map to help manage my present buying and trying to copy bits of a present list from a Word doc into an already existing mind map. It would be great to cut and paste into the map and if the as different branches. Currently the only way that I have been able to do it is to insert each branch individually and and then paste in item by item.
I guess I could export the whole map to freemind paste there and then reimport the map to mindmeister - but would be good if mindmiester could have this functionality as well
