Hello everyone,
I have a map with some nodes and some relationships that I manage via the web interface.
After adding another node, I tried to reposition the node. But when I "unclick" the node at the desired position, the node jumps at another position, very very outside my editing area (I have to zoom to find the node). After adding this node, I experience this strange behaviour with all nodes - I just can't use mindmeister anymore, this map it completely broken.
Is this a known bug? Are there any workarounds..? I think I have to switch to MindManager if mindmeister turns out to be useless for my map :/

Can't control the node locations as well and very concerned as a new customer that this questions has been posted with out an answer? I am using this for business and can not wait a week or so for answers.
WTF??? I keep running into this problem and I KNOW I have addressed this over a year ago.
In spite of our efforts to completely eliminate this issue, it still seems to be occurring in some rare cases. We've added code to notify us when the problem arises and would like to urge our users to contact us with details whenever they experience it (please indicate your browser environment, what exactly you were doing and whether Keep Aligned mode was on on the respective map).
I am concerned about the stability of your product? Can I trust it for business use? This was a big problem in a key meeting and one of the key nodes was lost so I come not continue the meeting. If this is a beta product please just say so.
Hi All,
I also currently experience this issue in every class where we collaboratively map. It is has the worst effect when training new people (they become frustrated and more difficult to train). It happens on firefox and chrome. We don't typically use IE7, but with the chrome browser extension I will be showing people MM on IE7 as well.
In order to avoid the issue, I've started making my maps to have only 2 nodes that branch to the Left and Right from the central node. I then create every other node under those (Right and Left) initial "child" nodes. This makes all of my maps look like an elephant head - a center with 2 enormous ears. We create extensive maps so the "Node jumping" of "level 1" nodes (with the center node as level 0), is an annoying limitation that I hope MM can fix soon. Freemind does not have this problem. This is a big limitation for newbies - they click and a sometimes a node is created far, far away, they do not know how to delete it, so I must do it, or show them how. It disrupts the training.
Good luck with this, and if you can somehow make the default map settings force all the level 1 nodes to stay as tightly clustered as possible, that would be great.
The second reason we want to have the information tightly clustered in the center of the screen is to allow for easiest and fastest scanning of the material. For the same reason books aren't 3 feet wide, maps need to keep information in a zone that minimizes the distance of eye movements. The busier people are, the more they need to process, the more everything needs to be displayed for efficient and fast reading.
Gracias my friends!
Hi All,
I'm about to try to convince 20 or more professors from Brandman University San Diego to create a collective wisdom map - they will not like the "node jumping" and this will decrease their willingness/ability to participate.
This in conjunction with a standard "maximum node width" that automatically restricts nodes width to a user specified value would be a HUGE help for end-user speed and efficiency. I'll post this second request in a separate area, but the ideas are linked - speed and ease of use.
Thanks!!
PG
Dear Paul,
We've fixed all the node positioning issues that have been brought to our attention so if you're still having problems please contact us on support@mindmeister.com to help us reproduce the issue. It would be great if you were available for a screen sharing session so that we can fix your issues once and for all.
The "maximum node width" feature has also been available for years now. It would be very puzzling if this also didn't work for you. Maybe we can sort this out as well in a joint session.
Best,
Michael
