New version of offline / local mode

I understand that since Google Gears has been depreciated, offline mode is not generally available.

I would love to see a replacement developed. Rather than offering a discrete service, which requires the users to anticipate going offline with selected maps, would it be possible for the application to constantly sync between the server and a locally stored version of the map?

This should allow for much faster interaction with maps: one of my (very few) frustrations with Mindmeister is waiting for the server to confirm a change a map. An associated request would be to jump rapidly to other mindmaps from within a map, without requiring a new browser window to be loaded. A locally cached version of other maps could make jumping between maps seamless. I believe this would radically enhance Mindmeister - currently each map feels quite isolated!

(I understand that one limitation to this option might be that realtime collaboration would be harder. If this is case it would be great to offer offline/local mode as an option.)

I wonder if the ipod/ipad apps have required the development of similar functionality, 3G signals being as flakey as they are.

With such features, I'd be even more addicted to Mindmeister.

I agree that the offline mode should have the option of constantly syncing. I often find that I need a file from my Dropbox while on the move, and those are already stored on my laptop without having to plan for the access. Mindmeister is working well for me, but this would make it much more effective in the field.
